Exercise, meditation, weight loss, most people have been told that these practices can help balance body, mind and spirit. In recent years, different types of yoga have become popular in the United States and around the world. As a result, there is now a need for hot yoga teacher training DC and other areas.

Teachers interested in leading classes or being included in the Original Hot Yoga Association or OHYA Directory require approval before teaching a course. For, the OHYA has a strong commitment to promote and support hot yoga. While extremely popular around the world, the practice is also known as the 26 & 2 method.

One of the goals of the organization is to train new trainers which can integrate and excel at studios in the local area and around the country. For, in order to achieve this goal, individuals seeking to lead these programs must meet specific standards which can be found on the OHYA website. Whereas, graduating students must complete an internship, join the OHYA and be listed in the directory as a method of community building and sharing.

Students often find positions at different OHYA once having graduated from a teacher oriented program. In order to acquire such a position, it is important to have a level 1 seal in the directory, completed an internship and have completed a training program. It should be noted that all classes, programs, sessions and studios have a zero tolerance for improper behavior, including sexual harassment. As such, if a student or teacher feels there has been an infraction of this nature, it is important to send an email report to the OHYA and notify the local police or other authorities.

For individuals whom are not sure a program qualifies one to apply for the OHYA Teacher Directory, verification can be completed by contacting the OHYA by email. While this is the case, there may be a need to complete an additional bridge program before the teacher can be listed.

Individuals seeking approval to teach a training class for teachers have to meet specific standards, file an application and be listed in the directory once approved. These standards include mindfully connecting with students as individuals and part of a group, merging personality with training methods, providing instructions which relate to the trainee, delivering instruction in a concise and clear manner and maintaining a personal practice outside the classroom.

Assuring students feel welcome, comfortable, safe and stable, performing evaluations and testing students on the ability to accept constructive criticism, teaching from the front of the classroom using a podium, encouraging beginners and connecting with students during and after class while controlling the air flow, oxygen and heat in the environment on an ongoing basis are essential to successful leadership.

Whether attending a OHYA training session for teachers, or teaching classes, both can be rewarding. It is important to note that those training teachers often spend more time in the classroom than traditional yoga teachers. As such, attending courses focused on teaching others how to teach can often require individuals with a flexible schedule.
