Pasco County Chiropractor Helps Alleviate Whiplash Pain

By Nelson Clodfelter

Whiplash is a term that originated back in 1928. It describes an abrupt hyperextension of the neck followed in instant succession by hyperflexion. Simply put, the head is jerked forward and back. It is difficult to validate since it does not show up on an x-ray. The immobility of the head and the pain are not any less serious. Pasco County Chiropractic offers help to clients with whiplash pain.

The primary cause of this condition is a rear end collision involving two cars. The impact is on the vertebrae, the discs that cushion them from one another, muscles and ligaments. It happens regardless of what speed the automobiles are traveling at when the crash occurs. A seat belt does not protect you from whiplash.

The head is not stabilized as the body is. Harsh jerking can tear fibrous tissue and result in a subluxation of the cervical discs and those in the upper back. The brain crashes into the interior wall of your skull and may cause a concussion or permanent brain damage.

The extent of injury that is caused depends on a number of things. Each human has different body dimensions and each automobile is larger or smaller than others. These varied factors make it impossible to predict how bad the injury is. Also, symptoms may not appear until days or weeks after the crash.

Make an appointment with a chiropractor to address the pain. It may radiate across the back from one shoulder to the other. It may radiate down one or both arms. It may prevent normal movement of the head.

The examination begins with a physical inspection of the spine. You will be questioned about the onset of pain and how intense it is. It is relevant if you are unable to work. Perhaps you cannot even bear to go for a short walk.

Care may involve adjusting the cervical spine, mobilization, specific exercises or spinal decompression. The reasons for selecting any of these will depend on your condition, age and health status. Appointments will be scheduled to carry out the program that is best for you.
