EMDR is about memories. It is about softening your memories. EMDR doesn't seem to care if a disease or some kind disorder happened yesterday, or 50 years ago. It is typically described that the brain doesn't care when a tragic incident has occurred. The only concern for the brain is how to establish a proper way to prepare the whole body to wrestle that incident, thus removing it from the system.

Trauma is existing in a continuum, where at the far end of the continuum things which can be described as the most extreme. Those are the kinds of experiences where a person's life is being threatened, or being severely injured, or the person might have seen other people lose their lives.

It just simply does not work. The brain goes into a shocked state, where the mind just repeats the information over and over again.

The trauma continuum exists on a scale of seriousness and can have a big impact on people's everyday life. So if someone was raised in a family where he is frequently humiliated or excluded, or neglected, then there is a reasonable chance for that person unlock many types of traumas mentioned in the upper lines. There are no insignificant or less impactful traumas.

The procedure offers a window into the mind, by processing out those hidden thoughts or those hot experiences that are pushing human emotions to the limit. It is not about the present, it is really about the past.

There is a list which can be compiled as well. In a way, EMDR can effectively treat panic attacks, sleeping problems, lingering grief, performance anxiety, sport issues, eating disorders, chronic pain, war trauma, sexual and physical inability and many more.

Who doesn't want to feel better as fast as possible? Change is always difficult. Regardless of what people want to change, it is always difficult. The process helps the individual change more fluidly and gives the people this internal sense of confidence. You see the progress and self-esteem which are needed in order to change. One can be certain that no therapy or treatment will work on the patient unless he believes it will. Success is part of believing into yourself, too.
