Discovering The Practice Of Rolfing Therapy San Diego

By Amy Kennedy

When it comes to body work, most people are familiar with massage. While this is the case, there are a number of other practices when it comes to energy work and the body. One practice, rolfing therapy San Diego works to reconnect bodily tissue in order to heal the body, build the immune system and alleviate pain.

Sometimes known as "the recipe, " rolfing generally consist of ten consecutive sessions of body manipulation and deep manual therapy. As this is the case, the service is now being offered as part of a number of chiropractic wellness plans. Generally, a wellness plan in this area will include an adjustment, followed by exercise therapy, then a deep manual therapy massage along with rolfing. While this is the case, the practice still remains skeptical among other medical professionals including doctors, psychiatrists and psychologists.

Based on Ida Rolf's ideas about an energy field which surrounds the body, the practice uses a combination of deep manual therapy and body manipulation. As a result, those whom work in this area and those whom receive treatments believe that when energies from the body align with the gravitational fields of the earth, the body benefits during the process.

While often considered a practice to relax body, mind and soul, traditional massage can often be extremely relaxing. In fact, many recipients of 80-120 massage sessions often fall asleep during the process. While this is the case, rolfing can often be painful, resulting in residual pain which can last for a few days. In addition, the process has also been known to bring emotional issues to the surface.

While the creator believes in the treatment, it is often known more as a pseudo-science as it involves a connection between the human body and the gravitational aspects of earth. Still, the creator believed that by aligning the energy surrounding the body with these forces, it was easier to manipulate and realign the body back to a point where a healing effect could take place.

Most professionals providing the service believe as did the creator that the process works to battle the continuous struggle between gravity and the body. For, the force of gravity according to Rolf, shortens the fascia, the connective tissue in the body. As a result, rolfing can work to lengthen, reorganize and reconnect this tissue through deep manual therapy and body manipulation.

Once lengthened and reorganized, the tissue can then allow providers to restore movement and eliminate pain. After which, the entire body is often in a healthier place and can better fight off illness and other conditions. In most cases, individuals can complete the process during the initial ten sessions. Whereas, some individuals might need to schedule additional appointments on a routine basis depending on the severity of the issue which created the need for rolfing.

While often referred to as energy work, body work or massage, rolfing is in a class of its own. For, the practice goes far beyond working with the muscles and skeletal structure and works with the internal aspects of the body. As such, a number of Osteopaths are now using the service on a regular basis in association with other treatments.
