The Struggles Of The Bipolar Marriage

By Charles Harris

Bipolar is a serious disorder, which needs to be treated in the right way. A bipolar marriage will really suffer when the couple don't work together. Someone who has this disorder will have a range of qualities that can be difficult to deal with. The spouse will battle with the fact that they tend to withdraw and become moody or irritable on another day.

The usual response is that you will be feeling alone and guilty, thinking as though you could be doing more. However, it is not fair to put yourself in this position. The average person does not know enough about the disorder in order to understand what their spouse is going through. In saying that, it is a good idea to find out more about the disorder.

Children always notice signs of tension that exist in the home. They will notice that their mom or dad is either depressed on one day and the next day they will be excited. It can obviously be confusing. They often think that this is their fault, and they go through life feeling guilty and ashamed. It is important for them to receive counseling at this young age.

The couple will also need support because it is not easy to manage a situation like this on your own. The spouse of the person with bipolar will need to know more about the disorder so they know how they can offer their support. This is important so that they are able to understand what their partner is going through. However, there are other things to bear in mind as well.

There are also people who develop the disorder later on in life after they have been married for some time. This can also be difficult because there are so many adjustments to make. This especially relates to the couple who have children. Children will feel the tension in the home. They may feel guilty, thinking it is their fault. They will need counseling as well.

Bipolar disorder can be brought on at anytime of one's life. Sometimes one is diagnosed early on. It can become easier for the couple when the person is diagnose before they are married. Of course, there are still complications. However, there will be those that are diagnose a couple of years into the marriage which may be a lot more difficult to deal with.

Someone that you are married to may be experiencing certain symptoms only after a couple of years. Most of the time they are gradual. They will usually become sad with many racing thoughts going through the mind. They will often become impulsive where they will be reckless and irresponsible.

Sometimes this will only be noticed when a person attempts suicide. It is natural not to notice what is going on in your partner's life. It is also natural to blame yourself, but this is something one has to avoid doing because you have to realize that this has nothing to do with the family situation or the relationship.
