This was discovered by Francine Shapiro on nineteen eighty seven. Dr. Shapiro suffered a negative distressing memories that caused her to have negative emotions. One day while she was walking to the park, she realized that moving her eyes while thinking of the threatening experiences she had helped her negative emotions decrease. Then she made an investigation about it, she researched and then first called it eye movement desensitization that may be used in PTSD. And in nineteen ninety one she changed it to EMDR.

Patients were treated using this one, the therapy incorporates elements from other psychotherapies such as, experimental, interpersonal, cognitive behavioral and body centered therapies. Distressing events in life are really difficult to cope, but there are therapists that may help you if you are just willing to treated. During the 1st phase of the treatment a thorough assessment of your traumatic experience will be done. Getting rid of the symptoms and your cognitive ideas will be discussed, as well as the goals for the treatment will be set.

The professional will assist you and let you cope up with the issue properly. If you are not ready, then he will wait for you to calm down. Techniques in coping and relaxation will be provided. You will tell everything about the stressful case, all of these will happen in the second phase.

The third to sixth phase, beliefs, emotions, images and body sensations will be identified and discussed related to the distressing event. This procedure will be repeated until the distressing feeling will be gone while thing about the formerly bad event. He or she will then be instructed to think positive that they will agree before.

On the 7th phase, you be required to write something in relation to the distressing experience you faced before. You will be evaluated during the eighth appointment. This appointment will be your last appointment.

The EMDR is no wonder a great aid to many, and not to mention the safest way. This has no negative adverse effect to a patient. Many people in the medical world like to use this to their clients. It is also been used in many other psychological problems, such as panic attacks, eating disorders, anxiety and addictions.
