There are many types of trauma that can affect a person enough to cause a disruption in his or her life. For example, many war veterans cringe on the Fourth of July at the sound of fireworks. Most can benefit from professional help to overcome these fears. Now there are licensed psychologists who offer Online ptsd counseling.

Both the soldier and the civilian are susceptible. Any horrific event can cause someone to develop this disorder. It might be seeing someone murdered or being held up at gunpoint. The aftereffects of undergoing such terror are very likely to lead to the frightening symptoms of PTSD.

Some examples that occur outside of a war zone are natural disasters, rape, assault, abuse or childhood neglect. Witnessing such an event happening to others may bring on symptoms. Knowing that a close family member suffered such trauma can cause someone to develop symptoms too.

There are reactions to disasters that are normal ones. The nightmares, obsessions and feelings of diconnectedness are temporary. However, in a case of post-traumatic-stress-disorder, they do not subside, but grow worse over time.

The most prominent symptoms of PTSD are increased distress, anxiety and disturbed emotions that do not subside within a reasonable length of time. The individual refuses to confront the reminders, or anything that triggers memories of the trauma. Often, although trying to avoid it, the person will relive the event over and over in his or her mind.

There does not appear to be any way to escape the feelings. They experience the aftereffects each day. This condition, post-traumatic-stress-disorder, may result in physical health disorders as well as mental ones.

Normalcy does not seem attainable by this troubled individual. His future looks bleak without the possibility of having a normal quality of life at any time. Emotional numbness is setting in.

The afflicted person may feel hopeless and depressed. A feeling of alienation from family and friends develops. Feelings of guilt and shame can lead to substance abuse and even suicide attempts.

Optimally someone will convince him to find help in dealing with those memories. If not confronted those feelings will persist and even grow worse. The effect can be physical, mental and lead to a lifetime of unhappiness.

But, if someone is afraid to leave the home, it is not easy to get the help needed. Now there is online counseling provided by licensed mental health professionals. It is a good choice if the alternative is not finding help in person.

When selecting a counselor, he or she should have the educational credentials and a license to practice. It is the first session that will be the hardest to instigate. But, once the contact is established, it will grow easier. The victim might be relieved that help is forthcoming.

In addition to single sessions, there are plans available to help defray the cost. Some plans offer a specific number of sessions per week or month. It may provide the support the victim needs just knowing help is just a phone call away.
