The Poignant History Of Present Giving

There are some traditions and customs that we practice until today that dates back hundreds of years ago. Among these is the custom of gift giving. For those who don't know, early people already started the custom of present giving during special events like birthdays, holidays, anniversaries among other occasions. At that time, people give natural substances and unique items like barks and reeds to their tribal leaders and other high people in society so as to signify respect, demonstration of allegiance and to acquire favours.

All over the globe, you will find multitudes of gift giving customs and traditions throughout history. Some ancient individuals, as part of their traditions, give gifts for their Gods as well. Jewellery, precious metals and in some cases animal human lives were offered as gifts. Among the gifts in Egyptian culture that can be considered the most ostentatious are the great pyramids and also the monuments of Pharaohs whom they revered as Gods.

In the Roman culture, they give gifts to each other on special occasions and through the first day of the year. It's customary to give sweet cakes because of the belief of making the upcoming year sweet, coins for affluence and lamps to light the journey through life. It's also a practice to give small gifts to birthday celebrators.

In the modern world where we live, presents are given for a wide array of reasons. We give gifts for cultural and religious celebrations like Christmas and Easter. In Singapore, it is also common to give away corporate gift Singapore. Corporate gifts are pretty important in the business realm as corporate gifts build relationships. We of course offer gifts to indicate love on birthdays, goodbyes, welcoming, holidays, to celebrate birth or simply because we would like to.

In a nutshell, it's safe to mention that gift giving is such an exquisite ancient tradition. However, we must keep in mind that, a gift doesn't have to be a tangible item. As a matter of fact, it could also be something unseen, something simple. It can be a warm smile or a couple of kind words. It can be a loving and meaningful hug. It could be a chore or a task. Whatever it is, what is important is that it comes from the heart.
