Life's Cunning Curveballs and Pathetic Pitfalls

By Kelsey Simon

Cunning curveballs and pathetic pitfalls are unexpected situations that can test your resolve to maintain a positive character. They come up when you least expect them and can catch you off guard. Suddenly, you can find yourself in the middle of a "bad scene," unprepared to deal with a situation that could lead to you making a bad choice that you will later regret.

Another important part of maintaining your character is being ready to forgive people who have hurt you or disappointed you. Without forgiveness you can become hateful and try to get revenge on that person. When people seek revenge, usually the people they hurt most are themselves. Forgiving others for their wrongdoing may not be the easiest thing to do, but it is definitely worth it, because it can help you maintain your positive moral character. It will get easier each time you practice.

The first step in handling curveballs and pitfalls is to plan for them. You may have already learned the value of setting your mind in advance. Take the time to imagine some of the unexpected situations that you may encounter and plan practical ways to deal with them. This is called hypothetical reasoning. Maintaining your character will sometimes require courage. Having knowledge, wisdom and a plan will give you the confidence you need to stand your ground. Don't be discouraged if you find yourself in a situation where you are the only one trying to do what is right.

Remember, you must stand up for what is right, or you will fall for anything. So be prepared by making full use of what you have learned in this The Peaceful Solution Character Education article. Preparation will enable you to avoid the cunning curveballs and pathetic pitfalls of life.
